Christmas music drifting through stores, neighborhoods glowing with lights, the smell of cookies in the oven—this season brings so many delightful things into our lives. And being a North Jersey girl, just thinking about Christmas still pulls up cozy images of fireplaces, warm blankets, and feet tucked up on the sofa.
But if I’m honest? The holiday season can also keep me so busy that I struggle to reflect on Jesus at all.
The concerts, church productions (does anyone still do Christmas cantatas?), gatherings, and gift shopping all add to the excitement of December—but they also add to the noise. Before long, my focus shifts from the meaning of Christmas to managing the busy of Christmas.

This is one of the reasons I created my 7-Day Christmas Devotional—because I needed something simple and short each day that would gently pull my heart back to Jesus. If you feel the same tug, you’re welcome to join me in it this season.
When We Need to Prepare Him Room
Isaiah 7:14
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”
Luke 2:7
“And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

These verses remind us that Christmas isn’t simply a season—it’s a rescue mission. A holy, perfect God stepped into humanity to offer salvation and eternal life. The wonder of that truth can be easy to lose in the noise of December unless we choose to prepare Him room.
So… how will you remember Him this year?
Traditions That Make Space for Jesus
I love our family traditions. One of my favorites is playing charades while we wait for Christmas dinner—it’s loud, ridiculous, full of laughter, and something I always look forward to.
But woven in with the fun, I’m realizing how meaningful it is to create traditions that help my heart slow down and reflect. Reading Luke 2 together is a beautiful way to re-center this season. Lighting an advent candle… pausing to pray before a meal… even taking a quiet moment at the tree before anyone else wakes up.

I enjoy the cookie baking, the Christmas parties, the decorated malls with carols echoing through the halls, and the evening drives to look at Christmas lights. All of that brings joy—but it also pulls my attention away from the One I genuinely want to honor.
If you feel this too, you’re not alone. Let’s choose—together—to focus on Jesus more intentionally this year.
Practical Ways to Prepare Him Room
To make space for Jesus, you may need to make space in your calendar.
1. Give yourself permission to say “no.”
You don’t have to go to every event or attend every gathering. Overscheduling doesn’t honor the season—nor your sanity. A peaceful heart is far more valuable than a perfect holiday checklist.
2. Plan purposeful reflection.
Quiet moments don’t just happen in December… we create them.
Take a few minutes each day to:
- read a Christmas devotional
(you can click here for my free 7-day devotional or check out these options on Amazon) - meditate on Scriptures about Christ’s birth
- pray and thank God for the gift of Jesus
These small pauses help carve out room in your heart for what matters most.

A Final Thought
As the season begins, may we not just celebrate Christmas—
…but experience it.
Not just remember the story—
…but make room for the Savior.
This year, let’s choose—together—to Prepare Him Room in our hearts, our homes, and our rhythms.
And if you need a simple place to start, I invite you to join me in the 7-Day Christmas Devotional. It’s my gift to help you stay centered on Jesus during the busiest time of year.
Let’s spread the hope of Christmas together—share this post with someone who might need it today.
